Homeless in San Francisco is an interactive website where players get to play various games to get a better understanding of the struggles of Homelessness in San Francisco. The game goes on to explain why many of the unhoused do not have the necessary tools to better their lives. I drew inspiration from old cartoon characters and wanted to play off the idea of how many of the unhoused are forgotten like such characters. I wanted to use the characters instead of real people because society tends to dehumanize these individuals furthering that many of the old arcade games like Atari Adventure Game don’t place too much detail on these pixelated characters. I really wanted to hone in on that with the aesthetic as this lack of attention to detail plays into the idea of ignorance society continues to choose when interacting with the unhoused.
